JSC statement on applications for vacancies in the offices of the CJ & Judge of Supreme Court.

PRESS STATEMENT OF THE JSC ON APPLICATIONS FOR THE VACANCIES IN THE OFFICES OF THE CHIEF JUSTICE AND THE JUDGE OF THE SUPREME COURT

Following the declaration of vacancy for the position of Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya on January 18, 2021 vide Gazette Notice No. 386, and the position of Judge of the Supreme Court of Kenya on February 21, 2020 vide Gazette Notice No. 1606, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) advertised the positions of the Chief Justice and the Judge of the Supreme Court on January 20, 2021.

The JSC closed the submission of applications on February 9, 2021, at 5.00 pm.  There are thirteen (13) applications for the position of the Chief Justice:

  1. Prof Otinga Mare
  2. Prof Dr. Dr. Moni Wekesa
  3. Mr Justice William Ouko
  4. Mr. Justice D.K. Marete
  5. Alice Jepkoech Yano
  6. Lady Justice Martha Koome
  7. Mr. Justice Mathew N. Nduma
  8. Ngatia Fredrick SC
  9. Prof Patricia K. Mbote
  10. Philip Kipchirchir Murgor
  11. Said Juma Chitembwe
  12. Otondi Ontweka
  13. Ombongi Brian Matagaro

They are nine (9) applications for the position of the Judge of the Supreme Court:

  1. Mr Justice William Ouko
  2. Mr. Justice D.K. Marete
  3. Alice Jepkoech Yano
  4. Lady Justice Martha Koome
  5. Mr. Justice Joseph Sergon
  6. Mr. Justice Mathew N. Nduma
  7. Mr. Justice Kathurima M’Inoti
  8. Justry P. Lumumba Nyaberi
  9. Hon Said Juma Chitembwe

The Commission will proceed to shortlist and publicize the list within 14 days as provided in the First Schedule of the Judicial Service Act.
