Invitation to Submit Comments on RENT RESTRICTION DRAFT REGISTRY MANUAL & SERVICE CHARTER

The Rent Restriction Tribunal is established under section 4 of the Rent Restriction Act Cap 296 to resolve disputes between landlords and tenants as well as any other function conferred to it by the laws of Kenya.

The overall objective of the Tribunal is to determine disputes between landlords and tenants for dwelling houses. Specifically, it is responsible for:

a) Regulating the increase of rent;
b) Exaction of premiums and fixing of standard rents;
c) Resolving disputes in relation to service charge, repairs of house, recovery of rent
arrears, refund of deposits, eviction, recovery of possession, assessment; and
d) Investigating complaints where the provisions of the Rent Restriction Act have been
flouted.

The Tribunal has finalised developing its Registry Manual and Service Charter to standardise its operations and enhance service delivery. It intends to validate these documents on November 11, 2022, from 9.30 am – 12.30 pm. The exercise will be conducted virtually. (To participate, use the link: https://bit.ly/3SmK0qd
