CJ launches Commercial Justice Sector Reform project

Chief Justice David Maraga presided over the launch of the Commercial Justice Sector Reforms Project.

The Commercial Justice Sector Reforms Project is one of the many initiatives being undertaken by the Judiciary in a bid to enhance service delivery.

The project aligns to Chief Justice David Maraga’s new strategic blueprint titled Sustaining Judiciary Transformation: A Service Delivery Agenda (2017-2021), which was launched in January 2017 and builds upon the role of the Judiciary in enhancing service delivery as established under the JTF.

The project will undertake Commercial Court Automation by introducing new information technology that meet international standards to improve court service efficiency and transparency. The automation has three components; e-filing, e-payment and case tracking system.

A more efficient commercial justice system promotes economic development by reducing capital held up in litigation and promotes Kenya as a safe investment destination. Litigants will be notified of court dates through SMS and can also obtain information on their cases through the Milimani Information Kiosk.

Law Firms will be able to register, pay for, and track cases at the comfort of their offices. Court Registry will be able to register cases, generate court dates, and store and track case files electronically.

This Project seeks to further strengthen Kenya’s business climate by encouraging increased investment through confidence in its commercial justice systems, by ensuring quality and efficient commercial justice systems that respond to key indicators of improved business climate, including:availability of court structures and processes for commercial matters.
