The judiciary has launched Court Annexed Mediation at the Machakos Law Courts to deal with civil cases.
Speaking during a courtesy call on the Machakos County Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua, Justice Richard Mwongo noted that positive results had been achieved through mediation since it was launched in 2016 in Nairobi.
Governor Mutua welcomed the introduction of mediation in the Machakos courts noting that there was huge backlog of cases especially in land related disputes.
“Machakos County welcomes this alternative form of dispute resolution because it not only emulates our tradition but it will also assist in unclogging the many land cases in court”
The Judiciary’s mediation team has scheduled sensitization meetings with various internal and external stakeholders who include members of Court Users Committee, Law Society of Kenya branch members, mediators, County leaders, Bankers, Business Community and the public.
Chief Justice David Maraga gazetted Practice Directions to guide the roll out of Court Annexed Mediation to 10 Counties namely; Mombasa, Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru, Nyeri, Machakos, Garissa, Embu, Kakamega and Kisii.
