Judge Achode installed as new Principal Judge of High Court

Chief Justice David Maraga presided over the installation ceremony of Lady Justice Lydia Achode as the Principal Judge of the High Court of Kenya. Lady Justice Lydia Achode was elected by other High Court judges in an election exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on 23 April, 2018. Rule 14 of the High Court Organization and Administration (General) Rules, 2016, requires that the handover of the office of the Principal Judge should be done at an Installation Ceremony to be conducted by the Chief Justice. Judiciary to construct more courts. FRIDAY, May 4, 2018 The Judiciary has asked Parliament to allocate it more funds for construction of more courts to bring justice closer to the people. Speaking during the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) Open Day at Milimani Commercial Court, Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu said the Judiciary plans to build more courts in the country in order to bring justice closer to the people. 2016 – 2017 best performing courts recognised

Best performing courts and administrative units, 2016 - 2017   Court of Appeal Malindi Court of Appeal Recognition award for overall best performing Court of Appeal.  This Court achieved a performance grade of “Good”. The court reduced case backlog by 62 %. The bench comprised of Hon. Justice Alnashir Visram- Presiding judge and Hon. Lady Justices Martha Koome and Wanjiru Karanja in the period under review. Judge Achode elected the new High Court Principal Judge

TUESDAY, April 24, 2018 Judge Achode elected the new Principal Judge of the High Court Lady Justice Lydia Achode is the new Principal Judge of the High Court of Kenya. Judge Achode was elected by other judges in election exercise conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), in Mombasa. The election of the Principal Judge of the High Court is in accordance with Article 165(2) of the Constitution.
