Functions of Office of the Deputy Chief Justice

The Deputy Chief Justice deputises the Chief Justice and is the vice-president of the Supreme Court.  As the Deputy Justice shall be responsible to the Chief Justice in the exercise of the functions and duties of the office.

RTD LADY JUSTICE KALPANA H. RAWAL


Justice Kalpana Rawal is an advocate of the High Court with over 40 years experience in the legal profession. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Master of Laws degrees in Constitutional and Administrative Law (LLM).

She practised for three years under the tutelage of the then Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, Justice P. N. Bhagwati, who later became the 17th Chief Justice of India.

She taught administration and regular police officers at Lower Kabete and was admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1975.

Justice Rawal was the first woman lawyer to set up a law firm in Kenya - K. H. Rawal Advocates in 1975 where she practiced until her appointment as Commissioner of Assize in 1999.
