The Kenya Women Judges Association (KWJA) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization registered under the Societies Act. Cap 108 Laws of Kenya.

The Association has been in existence for over 20 years and has spearheaded advocacy in the advancement and promotion of the rights of women and children and increasing the opportunities available to them.

Registered in 1993 with a membership of 2 judges -Hon. Lady Justice Effie Owuor, J.A (CA Rtd) and Hon. Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch (Now Judge of the ICC) - and a magistrate – Hon. Roseline Nambuye, (now a Judge of the Court of Appeal), the Association has worked tirelessly in advocating for rights and opportunities for women and children. Its membership has grown and currently enjoys a membership of more than 100 female judges and magistrates as well as associate members within the legal fraternity and in other sectors both governmental and private. This is exclusive of their colleagues in different professional sectors around the country who make up the honorary membership.

The Association is an affiliate of the International Association of Women Judges(IAWJ), a non-profit, non-governmental organization, based in Washington, whose members represent women judges worldwide who share a commitment to equal justice, gender equity and the rule of law.

Our ideas and vision for existence are anchored on the values of gender equity and equality, social justice and fair representation which are founded in the Association’s Constitution.
