CJ swears in two JSC Commissioners

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga presided over the swearing in of two Commissioners appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The two, Mr Kipng'etich arap Korir Bett & Ms Winifred Waceke Guchu replace Prof Christine Mango, whose term expired and Rev. (Dr.) Samuel Kobia [ See Profile ].


JSC promotes magistrates across the country

The Judicial Service Commission has promoted 115 magistrates.

In a memo to staff, the Chief Justice, Dr Willy Mutunga, said JSC approved the promotions this week. Out of the 115, 19 judicial officers were promoted from Senior Principal Magistrates to Chief Magistrates; while 17 were upgraded from Principal Magistrates to Senior Principal Magistrates. 

Dr Mutunga, who is also the Chairman of JSC,  announced that 20 Senior Resident Magistrates had been promoted to Principal Magistrates, while 59 moved up from Resident Magistrates to Senior Resident Magistrates.

JSC is conducting promotion interviews for resident magistrates.  The interviews started on November 17, 2014, and are expected to end on Friday November 21, 2014. Successful candidates will be promoted to the position of Senior Resident Magistrate. All the best shortlisted candidates.

Judicial Service Commissioners met with the parliamentary departmental committee on Justice and Legal Affairs in an effort to bury the hatchet and forge a new working relationship. The three-day retreat was held in Mombasa. ]
