Judiciary officials officially received the completed High Court Building in Busia town on, September 20, 2012 at 9 am. The Sh162.7 million project, which was started in April 2009, was handed over by the contractors to senior Judiciary officials.
The building, whose construction began in April 2009, has courtrooms to accommodate two High Court Judges and an additional two magistrates. The increased number of courtrooms will improve access to justice and give court officers a better work environment.
The court construction is part of infrastructure improvement in line with the Judiciary’s Transformation Framework (JTF) that seeks to facilitate Access to and Expeditious Delivery of Justice and adequate Physical Infrastructure. This is in realization that the infrastructural investment in the Judiciary has been grossly inadequate. Court stations and court rooms were not only unfriendly, but were also few and far between, forcing citizens to walk long distances hence undermining the objective of access to justice.
