Competition Tribunal members take Oath

News Release. Judiciary, Kenya. Competition Tribunal members take Oath. Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi today at Supreme Court Building presided over swearing in of the chairperson and three members of the Competition Tribunal.

Mr Stephen Kipkenda Kiplagat was sworn in as the chairperson while Mr Irshad A. Ibrahim, Rtd Major P.O Awita and Ms Wanja Wambugu, as members of the Tribunal.

The CRJ said the Judiciary is committed to supporting the Tribunal to ensure that its operations run smoothly.

Mr Kiplagat, on his part, said the Tribunal will hit the ground running once its operational Rules are approved and gazetted.

The Tribunal is established under the Competition Act and deals with decisions arising from the Competition Authority especially with regard to restrictive trade practices.

The Competition Act which creates the Competition Authority and the Tribunal, seeks to enhance the welfare of the people of Kenya by promoting and protecting effective competition in markets and preventing unfair and misleading market conduct throughout Kenya.

The Acting Registrar of Tribunals Ann Asugah, administered the Oaths.
